I2C Bus Communication with Sensortechnics’ Digital Pressure Sensors

Sensortechnics' digital pressure sensor families offer precision absolute, gage or differential pressure measurement from 2.5 mbar up to 10 bar. These devices are digitally calibrated and temperature compensated with an on-board ASIC, which provides a corrected pressure value with up to 15-bit resolution. The response time depends on the adjusted internal resolution. For standard parts with 12 bit resolution, the response time is typ. 0.5 ms.

Operating Principle and Construction of Zirconium Dioxide Oxygen Sensors

Sensortechnics' oxygen sensors of the XYA series consist of two zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) discs coated with thin porous layers of platinum, which serve as electrodes. The two discs are attached to a platinum ring, forming a hermetically sealed chamber. At the outer surfaces of the ZrO2 discs there are two further platinum rings to provide for the sensors electrical contacts. The first disc is connected to a reversible current source, at the second disc a voltage (Nernst voltage) can be measured.

Selecting the Right Pressure Sensor

To select the right pressure sensor for a specific application besides the pressure range first of all the type of pressure measurement has to be considered. Pressure sensors measure a certain pressure in comparison to a reference pressure and can be divided into absolute, gage and differential devices. This report will explain these terms on the basis of Sensortechnics’ piezoresistive pressure sensors.
